Ahora, donde?
I am thinking about continuing this blog now that I am on another adventure.
I am currently in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State University. The program I am with is called Computational and Systems Biology Summer Institute.
This is really my first time in Iowa and my first time programming. Scary.
Maybe more later. I am losing light outside and my battery is also about to give.

I think I have hit a brick wall—just in time for the start of second semester. It is Friday night and the end of break is right around the corner. I am attempting to study the MCAT, General Chemistry and Verbal Reasoning. I am attempting to write 3 personal statements. How far am I getting? I have taken one test in the last 3 1/2 hours.
NOT FAR.

If I could eat a diet of strictly chocolate and things covered in chocolate, I would feel no need to hope for a place such as heaven, for this would be heaven.
Ay! Que mono!
Thanks honeyb!
Ok so what I wrote last was not completely correct. There is reason to believe that science has increased our ability to hurt each other in larger and more destructive ways. BUT, and a large one at that, you can not forget what science has done for us! Just today, a clinical trial has been approved for stem cell injection into patients with moderate spinal damage. They only hope to prove that it...
Increible
Here is a small excerpt from an article by my professor of a course called: Issues Science/Religion
Science, just like all other human enterprises, is fallen. Despite the marvels of the new knowledge gained and new technology produced, science has become subject to the funding of jingoists and the ambitions of militarists. Advances in scientific knowledge lead frequently to equal advances in the...

Well, we are back on the hill. Interim has started and it is strange to be back. I am taking a course called “Issues Science/Religion.” Right now we are talking about Christology and Soteriology. Which are kind of interesting…sometimes… The good thing about this class is that we will never have class on thursdays and this friday class was cancelled. This means that I have a...
El año nuevo
Today we are making paella for my dad’s birthday. Because they never had a chance to taste it while in Espana, we decided to give it a go here. I think we have been dicing, finely chopping, simmering, boiling, steaming, stirring and waiting for over 2 hours. But it will be worth it wont it?
Picture later.

Mantenimiento
I got a new phone today. It was that time of year (well time of 2 years). I set the language to Spanish. Hopefully that will help me maintain my language?
Also, I am about to attempt One hundred years of solitude in Spanish. Though, I have already read it in English, so quizas that will help.
And the culture shock continues…
I thought I heard Chari’s mop this morning. She’s got this motorized thing that squeezes out all of the water so she doesn’t have to strain her back doing it herself. The worst thing is that I first thought it was weird because it is Wednesday instead of Friday, and not the fact that it would be impossible for it to be her.
Estoy acostumbrada?
As my jetlag begins to wear off, I am realizing that Spain is really over. One of the most looked forward to events in my life is over. And as that last sentence might seem slightly negative, I can say, assuredly, that I have almost no regrets. Looking back, I only see incredible memories. I mean, for goodness sakes, I lived with a fantastically amiable Spanish family and met some great people,...
I….can’t….. write….anything…..
11 hours of sleep in 4 days
Today is the last day of class. I have woken up early to get to el Palacio at about 9am. My first final is at one and there is an unbelievable amount of information, nevertheless it will be over soon. The second final follows soon thereafter, beginning at three. This one involves translating about 14 paragraphs from english to spanish. And let me tell you these are not normal paragraphs. Example...
El ultimo lunes
It’s Monday. My last Monday. The last Monday in Sevilla. The last Monday I will ever have that starts at 7:15pm.
I have a presentation in class in a couple minutes. The one thing about my work ethic in Spain is that I hardly have one. We’ll see how this goes. Wish me luck as I describe to my fellow students the atrocities committed in the name of honor.
I just bought my ticket for...
My time here in Spain is reaching its end. I have 9 days to go before I head home to Minnesota. I can’t believe it. I really can’t believe it. It was only yesterday that we were exploring the city with our guides.
Part of me is really ready to come home. I can’t wait to sleep with only one layer on top and bottom. I can’t wait to drink a glass of milk and meals every 5...
This weekend I shared a room with 17 other people for three nights.
Las prendas
What I wore to bed last night:
On the bottom:
Two pairs of socks: one winter/ski sock and one regular white
Two pairs of sweatpants: one grey long and one black capri, both tucked into the socks of the matching length
On top:
A long sleeve shirt
A big t-shirt
A velvet snap-up sweater
A large Twins sweatshirt
A Northface fleece
On the hands:
A pair of small gloves
For bedding:

Exactly two weeks from today, well about a 1/2 hour less than 2 weeks, I will be done with my final exams and I will be a day and a 1/2 away from leaving Sevilla.
INCREIBLE!
This weekend Amy and I are heading to Barcelona because it is a ‘puente,’ meaning long weekend or holiday weekend. We are leaving bright and early tomorrow morning. I am going to catch the 615am airport bus in...
I decided to invest 3 stupid hours.
I drank a Coca-Cola Light today. I am trying to build up my tolerance for when I return. Though this Coke Light, isn’t quite the Diet Coke I am used to. Nonetheless, they both have caffeine.
Tonight my interest group, Espana y sus vecinos, is going to a French Crepery (sp?) to try some homemade crepes! I hope they are good, because I am leaving volunteering early to get there on time!
Today is December 1st!!! Unbelievable!
Countdown: 19 days
No le echo de menos
I was thinking about all of the food that I miss from home, again. And I realized that I didn’t put pop on the list. I really have only had about the equivalent of 6 cans here, which for the way I used to drink it, is nothing. I quit cold turkey and didn’t even notice it.

In exactly three weeks I will be returning home to the beautiful, but cold, state of Minnesota.
THREE WEEKS!
I absolutely can not believe that so little time remains. These last couple of weeks will probably be the busiest here.
1. Amy and I are going to Barcelona for 4 days this next long weekend.
2. I have an entire paper to write and I have no idea what my topic should be.
3. I also have...
My senora´s wallet was returned! A man brought it to the house yesterday afternoon. He said he found it at about 10:30 the day before, which was about 20 minutes after it was stolen. There was $30 in the wallet, but 10 of it was in a different pocked, which they didn´t see. All the cards and papers were still in it, too.
What nice thieves?
